Spring Education Event

The Mid-America Council will be hosting a hybrid in person and zoom conference on May 20th.  The in person will be located on the campus of Western Illinois University at their Riverfront Hall building, Room 103.  Parking is in the 34th St Lot off of 34th Street and Rive Drive in Moline, Illinois.   Zoom links are below.

 

The first hour will be live and will be Harlan Fuller
Harlan J. Fuller, CPA (inactive), CMA, CFM, is an Emeritus Instructional Assistant Professor of Accounting at Illinois State University.  He retired in 2017 after 35 years of teaching, but failed retirement and is back in the classroom.  He has been active at the Local, Council, and Global levels of the Institute of Management Accountants since joining in 1988.  He has been especially interested in finding ways to use Excel to help management accountants become more valuable to their organizations.

 

He will be talking about Power Query and how to change data from Excel and Non-Excel formats into Excel formats quickly and easily.

The second 1 and ½ hour session will be a live panel discussion on the transition from employee to business leaders.  The first member of the panel will be Aussama A. Basaraa, Senior Manager, Techincal Accounting, at John Deere.  Aussama has been with John Deere for 20 years.  Before that, he spent three years as an Auditor with KPMG. 

 

 

The second member of the panel will be Wesley C. Sowers, Partner, Deloitte & Touche in Davenport.  Wes has over 20 years of experience delivering audit and audit-related professional services with an emphasis on serving publically traded clients in the manufacturing and financial services industries. During this time Wes has been responsible for leading services requiring significant technical expertise in the areas of US GAAP and SEC reporting and have assisted clients in completing complex mergers and acquisitions and initial public offerings.

The panel will be led by Gary Wolbers, Instructional Assistant Professor of Management and Quantitative Methods at Illinois State University. 

 

Gary joined the Management and Quantitative Methods Department as an Instructional Assistant Professor in Fall 2017. He teaches Organizational Behavior and Organizational Theory at ISU, including Leadership, Organizational Change, Entrepreneurship, and Human Resources.

Gary received his Doctorate of Business Administration from St. Ambrose University in June 2016, and was a Visiting Professor of Entrepreneurship at Monmouth College prior to joining ISU. Before academia, Gary was a mid-market commercial lending officer and manager in the banking industry, serving the financial needs of privately-held small- and mid-sized enterprise with revenues less than $500 million.

The final one hour session will begin at 1:00 PM.  The speaker will be Dr. Amy Igou, Halverson Associate Professor of Accounting and Program Coordinator, Accounting.  Amy will join use via Zoom.

Prior to joining UNI, Amy Igou worked for 19 years at Deere and Company in a variety of accounting systems positions, including information systems audits and the implementation of SAP projects. After obtaining her doctorate’s degree from Southern Illinois University in Carbondale, she joined the accounting department at UNI.  She will be demonstrating Robotic Process Automation.
